I Could Use a Little More Connection

REFLECTIONS ON CONNECTION & BELONGING

There are times when we can be surrounded by people and still struggle to feel a real sense of belonging.

We can have conversations without feeling known. Spend time with people without feeling connected. Keep parts of ourselves carefully tucked away because we’re not sure how they’ll be received.

I’ve spent a lot of my life learning the difference between being around people and actually letting myself be known by them. These reflections aren’t about becoming more social or filling our calendars with more people. They’re simply some things I’ve noticed about friendship, vulnerability, community, and the places where we feel safe enough to be ourselves.

Maybe one of them will remind you that connection sometimes begins with something as simple as letting ourselves be seen.

The Places Where We Don’t Have to Perform

I used to think being respected was the same thing as being connected. I’m learning that real connection asks for something different: enough honesty to stop managing how I appear and let someone see what’s actually true.

Alone and Lonely

There was a time when being by myself felt uncomfortable, and being surrounded by people felt safer. I’m learning that being alone and being lonely aren’t the same thing, and that becoming more comfortable with myself has actually deepened my relationships with others.

The Main Attraction

I’ve found myself connecting with people whose lives look very different from mine, only to discover how much we share underneath the details. Sometimes connection doesn’t happen because our stories match. It happens because the humanity underneath them does.

Finding the Trail Again

I once found my way back to a trail because someone who had been there before me left a small marker behind. It reminded me how often we find our way because another person took the time to make the path a little easier for whoever came next.

The Story Was Never Just Mine

I’ve found myself connecting with people whose lives look very different from mine, only to discover how much we share underneath the details. Sometimes connection doesn’t happen because our stories match. It happens because the humanity underneath them does.

The Words We Use Matter

I’ve started paying more attention to the words I use and what they create between me and the people around me. Language doesn’t just express what we’re thinking. It can shape how we understand one another and how connected, or disconnected, we feel.

A Reflection Each Sunday

If these kinds of reflections speak to something you’re experiencing, I share a new one every Sunday. No answers to have figured out. Just an invitation to notice what life might be showing us.
